RemeGenix: Overview Print E-mail

RemeGenix, Inc (RGX) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of disease-altering therapies to prevent cellular degeneration of the brain.  As such, the initial product in development by the Company is directed toward addressing Alzheimer’s disease, a multi-factorial disease with no approved disease-altering drugs. More specifically, RGX is developing technologies with well-validated, novel models for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), dementia and cognitive decline. Unlike competitive products in development or already approved, RGX’ lead technologies are focused on addressing the causes of the disease rather than the symptoms.

The Company was established in 2006 by President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), J. Kelly Ganjei and scientific co-founder and acting Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), Luciano D’Adamio, MD, PhD. The co-founders originally worked together in the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Immunology at the NIH where Dr. D'Adamio's screening system, "the Death Trap" aimed at selecting genes involved in T-Cell receptor induced cell death, identified an Alzheimer's gene. The pair have been collaborating since then on a number of projects, and RemeGenix is the result of years of dedication by the founders.

Through a series of angel financing, state grants, funding from venture philanthropy groups and a smaller venture capital firm, the founders have progressed the preclinical development of the Alzheimer’s disease program (RGX-100), completed preliminary structure analysis of RGX-100 to support its small molecule drug discovery efforts (as RGX-200), and have completed significant characterization of its animal model and tools portfolio (as RGX-Tgx). Recently, the company has re-focused its  efforts on its lead Alzheimer’s drug RGX-100 as we have further refined the biological mechanism of action of this candidate, and will continue to consider in-licensing additional candidates as potential opportunities arise.

Collectively the management team and advisory boards consists of experienced business, regulatory, and intellectual property executives, along with world renowned scientists specializing in molecular biology, neuroscience, medicinal chemistry and cognition.

The company's primary focus area of neurodegenerative disease is one of the largest therapeutic sectors in biotechnology with much of the market being left clinically unmet. In line with this rapidly expanding market, RemeGenix product candidates will be opportunistically pursued in other indications of cognitive decline once we have signs of significant clinical efficacy (after Phase II).
